Thank you to my male counterpart for pointing out that it is not only men who engage in the practice of tail docking; that is, cutting off dog’s tails. Women, too, like to cut important appendages off of their beloved pets. And thank you also for reminding us that your compassionate nature would urge you to cause yourself pain (smashing your finger in a door) before causing pain to another (cutting off a defenseless dog’s tail). I, too, have smashed my finger in a door many times. It’s not that I would rather smash my finger in a door than do other things with my time; it’s just that I’m clumsy so I do smash my finger in doors. A lot. Speaking of excruciating pain, I went on a first date the other night. Going on a first date can be a lot like smashing your finger in the door. Repeatedly. Or like having your tail docked.
But that is a story for another time.
